Scientific and Clinical Studies:

A growing body of peer-reviewed research and clinical trials has evaluated the efficacy of ADMSC conditioned media in skincare. Below is a summary of notable studies:

• Kim et al., 2020 (Biomedical Dermatology): In one of the first direct clinical trials, 60 middle-aged women with hyperpigmentation and wrinkles were divided into three groups (20 each) to test a cosmetic containing human ADMSC-CM[13][14]. For 28 days, Group E1 applied a cream with 5% ADMSC-CM twice daily; Group E2 used a cream with 5% ADMSC-CM encapsulated in polymersomes (to enhance delivery); Group C was placebo. The results were significant: skin moisture content increased, transepidermal water loss (TEWL) decreased, and pigmentation and wrinkle depth improved in the ADMSC-CM groups compared to control[15][16]. Group E1 (plain ADSC-CM) showed markedly better skin hydration and reduced melanin/erythema than placebo, and Group E2 (encapsulated form) showed the greatest improvements in all measured parameters – including moisture, barrier function, pigmentation (melanin index), redness, wrinkle size, and skin roughness. This study not only confirmed ADMSC-CM’s effectiveness in human topical use but also highlighted that advanced delivery systems (polymersomes) can further enhance results[19]. No adverse reactions were reported, and a follow-up of this trial is expected to solidify these findings[20].

• Lee et al., 2021 (J. Cosmet. Dermatol.): This randomized controlled trial assessed ADMSC-CM in a post-laser anti-aging regimen. Twenty-five patients with aging skin underwent fractional ablative laser on the face, then for 3 weeks applied a moisturizer with 2% niacinamide with or without ADMSC-CM to opposite sides of the face[21]. The side treated with the ADMSC-CM+niacinamide showed significantly greater improvements: wrinkle index and hyperpigmentation (melanin index) were reduced more than the control side[22][6]. Patients also rated higher satisfaction and global aesthetic improvement on the ADMSC-CM side[6]. Importantly, laboratory analyses revealed why: skin samples from the ADMSC-CM side had lower pro-inflammatory cytokines, lower MMP-1/MMP-2 (collagen-degrading enzymes), and higher type I collagen expression[6]. This indicates that ADMSC-CM helped suppress inflammation and protect the skin’s collagen post-injury. The authors concluded that topical ADSC-conditioned media significantly enhances skin rejuvenation after laser therapy, with no notable side effects beyond what the laser itself caused[6].

• Ahn et al., 2023 (Annals of Dermatology): Although this study used conditioned media from umbilical cord MSCs rather than adipose, it provides relevant evidence for MSC-CM’s benefits on sensitive, barrier-damaged skin. In a split-face trial, 27 patients had a nonablative laser applied to induce a controlled skin barrier disruption, then applied UCB-MSC conditioned media to one side vs. saline to the other. The MSC-CM–treated side showed significantly better barrier recovery – lower TEWL and less redness – and patients reported less irritation[25]. The authors noted that MSC-CM treatment improved skin barrier function and reduced inflammatory responsiveness, suggesting benefits for sensitive or rosacea-prone skin[26]. By analogy, ADMSC-CM (which shares many growth factors with UCB-MSC-CM) likely confers similar barrier-strengthening and calming effects.
