We all know the feeling of purchasing a skin care product we’re super excited to use for the first time, and then being disappointed by the results. What a disappointment!
One way to forego the woes of wasting money on products that are wrong for your skin is to know what your skin type is.

There are several different skin types. Read on to discover what your skin type is and how to match skin care products to your type.

The 5 Skin Types
There are 5 types of healthy skin; they include normal, dry, combination, oily, and sensitive. Combination skin indicates two or more different types of skin in the T-zone and cheeks on one person’s face. Typically, genetics are the most profound influence of skin type. However, other factors, including age, diet, and sun exposure, can also be of influence. Regardless of outside or internal factors, with proper skin care, older skin can look renewed and fresh. Using the right products for you is important because various skincare ingredients interact differently with each skin type.
Normal skin is a perfect balance between dry and oily. This skin type reveals few imperfections and has the same texture throughout the 3 zones on the face (upper, middle, and lower). Similarly, there aren’t any skin conditions associated with this skin type, nor is there a great number of visible pores or obvious skin sensitivities. People with this skin type tend to have the most naturally radiant complexion. However, people with other types of skin can still achieve the look and feel they want with the right skin care regimen.
Dry skin is extremely common. As the name suggests, it is defined by a lack of moisture inside and under the skin. This lack of moisture can cause skin to have a rough or dull look, along with red patches and visible lines. Often, the cause of dry skin can be found in external factors such as dry winters, indoor heat, copious amounts of sun, and baths and showers that are simply too hot. There are also certain skin conditions that cause dry skin, such as eczema and dermatitis. If you have dry skin, don’t panic! There are several ways to keep your skin from becoming excessively dry, such as avoiding certain kinds of soaps, taking shorter and cooler showers, and moisturizing your skin to keep water from escaping.
People who have combination skin can be confused about their skin type, especially since its overall look can change along with the weather. They most often have to ask, “What is my skin type?” In the summer, their faces can appear more oily, while the winter months can have a drying effect on their skin. Regardless of the weather, this skin type is characterized by oil production that is non-uniform.
Typically, people with this skin type have normal-to-dry areas on their cheeks. Their T-zones, however--which consist of their forehead, chin and nose--can be oily. The extra moisture in this area can cause blackheads or a shiny face, as well as large pores. Combination skin requires specific care that addresses the two different types of skin at once. There are many products for combination skin that produce a smooth texture, and a uniformed glow.
Oily skin is very common as well. While everyone has some oil on their skin, people who overproduce oil tend to have skin that appears shiny and feels greasy to the touch. This overproduction is a result of overactive sebaceous glands. Those with oily skin tend to be oily throughout their facial zones, as opposed to only in certain areas. Furthermore, when left untreated with the right skincare regimen, oil can clog pores and cause acne. Conversely, when oily skin is managed with the best face products and skincare routine, it becomes bright and glows.
People with sensitive skin tend to have a strong reaction to chemicals, soaps, and fragrances in products. Also, their skin can feel itchy, break out into rashes, and have noticeable redness. As a result, people with sensitive skin have to be careful about the types of products they use. They should be organic, allergen-free, and chemical free. Some people have sensitive skin as a result of allergies, skin disorders, or injured skin. Common skin conditions that cause sensitivities include rosacea and eczema. Although sensitive skin can be difficult to deal with, there are many soothing products to make your skin feel healthy and look beautiful.
Products for Each Face Type
There are many products available for specific skin types. Here’s a few of our favorites:
For dry, normal, combination, or sensitive skin, we highly recommend the Souffle Moisturizer. It has all natural ingredients, so it won’t inflame sensitive skin. In addition, it is a lightweight moisturizer that promotes deep hydration. This is not recommended however, for oily, acne-prone skin.
If skin is dry or sensitive, applying moisturizing masks can help soothe skin.
The Rose Quartz Goddess face mask is a product that is effective on oily and acne prone skin. This mask naturally cools and soothes to reduce puffiness and dark circles.
For all skin types, we recommend the daily botanical serum for daily maintenance. The botanical serum is organic and contains fatty acids and vitamins. As a result, it nourishes and brightens the face while reducing inflammation.
For sensitive or inflamed skin, the Gold Cryo facial set is an excellent choice. It harnesses cold therapy to revive tired or irritated skin. In addition, it can reduce pores, fine lines, and redness. Furthermore, it has the added benefit of reducing puffiness in the face. When using this product, it is best to keep it in the refrigerator for maximum usefulness.
There are many ways to improve your skin. Whichever skin type you have, choosing the right facial products is a must. Also, consider washing your face daily with a good cleanser, and choosing the right moisturizer to prevent dry, flaky, and irritable skin.
Knowing your skin type empowers you to choose products that will give your skin a healthy, beautiful glow!
